Air Source Heating & Cooling Systems
Air source heat pumps
Giving you heating and hot water throughout the year, air source heat pumps generate heat energy from the surrounding air. They continue to work even when temperatures outside dip as low as -15°C.
Generate heat energy from the air
Air source heat pumps can serve as a great alternative to conventional heating systems. They enable you to generate your own heat and could help you to reduce both your energy bills and your carbon footprint.
An air-source heat pump system generates heat energy from the surrounding air using a similar principle to a refrigerator but in reverse. While a refrigerator conducts the warm air outside, an air-water heat pump brings the heat from the ambient air into your rooms.
Specifically, a fan actively draws in the ambient air and transfers it to a heat exchanger (evaporator) installed in the heat pump. A refrigerant circulates inside it, changing its physical state and evaporating even at low temperatures. To raise this refrigerant steam to a level that can be used for heating and hot water production, it is compressed using a compressor. Its heat is then transferred to the heating and hot water circuits in your home.
Thanks to their highly effective and efficient design, these solutions can generate heat even when the temperature outside is a low as -15°C.
As well as providing warmth during the colder months, air heat pumps can serve as cooling systems during the summer. With an air source heat pump cooling system, you’ll benefit from a versatile solution that can help you to enjoy comfort at home throughout the year.
Another advantage of these solutions is that they have the potential to generate income through the government’s Renewable Heat Incentive. They also eliminate the need for fuel deliveries and storage, require minimal maintenance and have a long lifespan. In addition, air source heat pumps are easier to install than ground source heat pumps, particularly for retrofit. When located outside your home, they can also save space.
Indoor or outdoor installation possible
Air source heat pumps are among the most frequently used heat pumps, not only due to their relatively low investment costs but also to their many installation options.
Particularly quiet in operation
Thanks to years of intensive research and development work, modern air heat pumps from Viessmann operate very quietly and are hardly audible during operation.
Our heat pumps feature Advanced Acoustic Design, meaning that all components of the heat pump are designed to minimise noise. In particular, low-frequency noises which are perceived as particularly disturbing have been minimised.
Design & Technology
In the monobloc version, all components important for heat recovery are located inside the heat pump. The connecting lines between the indoor and outdoor units are only filled with water, meaning such devices can be brought into operation quickly and easily.
The specialist carrying out the work does not have to have a cooling certificate or a Gas Safe registration. Because most devices operate very quietly, installation close to the living area is possible.
Depending on the application, air source heat pumps can be used in a variety of ways. The Vitocal 350-A and Vitocal 300-A air-water heat pumps are particularly suitable for modernisation projects, whereas the Vitocal 200-A air-water heat pump is more suitable for new builds. Compared to a brine-water heat pump, the investment in an air-water system is lower. This is because the installation of a geothermal collector or the drilling work required for the geothermal probe is completely eliminated.
The heat pumps are designed for both indoor and outdoor use, with outdoor installation being a particularly space-saving option. Only the control system and the hydraulic components are mounted on the wall in the house.
